Traveling

Get your own Visited US States Map from Travel Blog

I LOVE to travel. I would LOVE to have the time and money to travel everywhere. Well, everywhere they don't have very large bugs anyway.

Someday, I want to have traveled to every state. Not just to say that I have, but because I would like to experience what each state has to offer.

OH! My Gosh!!!

OK. So last night, Ryan and I rode our bikes over to the tennis courts. This was the first time that we went and someone else was there. We were forced to play on a court next to some guys who actually KNOW how to play.

There were four men playing a doubles game when we arrived. The only court available was right next to them... Oh... It was terrible for me. Ryan and I are just trying to volley the ball and try to get it to cross the net or not go over the fence at this point. These guys were VERY into their game and I was TERRIFIED that one of our balls would end up rolling into their game. I kept hearing them talk about "Ugly Tennis", and I felt like they were talking about us, even though Ryan SWEARS they were talking about a tennis tourniment they saw earlier.

I wanted to just leave, but Ryan reminded me that we were free to be there, whatever our skill level was, and we need not worry about what others were doing or thinking. I knew he was right, so we kept playing.

You know what? It is really fun to hang out with my husband. It is even MORE fun if it isn't just the both of us sitting on the couch watching Heroes while playing on the internet on our laptops! Who knew! I really DO like the exercise thing!

The Bike

Giant - Yukon

This weekend, after my husband got home from his scouting excursion, we went out to get him a new bike. Supposedly it is because he "needs" it for scouts. (wink, wink)

After feeling so terrible all week long it felt good to have a reason to get outside and enjoy some fresh air. We took the new bike out for a spin, over to the park to play tennis. Now... In high school I was on the tennis team, but I haven't really played since. However, I have to say that since I haven't played in about 12 years, it all came back pretty well. All except for the serving part.

We played for about an hour. I shouldn't really say "played" because we didn't keep score and it was a struggle to get a good volley going. My husband has never played tennis and LOVES baseball. He didn't quite get that you don't need the same force with a tennis racket and that it is more about angle than about force. He ended up having to go find the ball, over the fence and in the court behind us.

It began to rain, so we put away the rackets and started to ride the bikes back home. The rain never REALLY got going, so once we got back to the house we decided to just keep going. It was lovely to feel the moist, clean air in my lungs as we rode around the curvy streets in our neighborhood.

I think I am going to like the biking thing!

WEEKEND!!!

Yeah! It is the weekend!!!

This week went fairly quickly to me, but I am SO happy it is the weekend. I have been mucusy and achy since last weekend and I just want to be able to lounge about.

My husband is off with the Scouts tonight. He is a scout master for the Boy Scouts of America and they are off camping and doing guy stuff. I get to stay home, have the bed ENTIRELY to myself and watch house shows on HGTV and DIY to my hearts content. When my husband was asked to help out with the scouts we had only been married for a little over a year. We had never spent a night apart since we got married. I was sad that first time he was gone, but now I really like my time alone again.

Best Friends

I made my first best friend at the bus stop on my way to my first day of school. We were best friends until about 3rd grade when we were put into different classes. I had other best friends throughout the years, up through high school.

My best friend in high school was made in an odd way. We liked the same boy. We became best friends trying to find out about eachother. Funny....

We were "bosom friends" & "kindred spirits" just like Anne and Diana from Anne of Green Gables. This was a friendship like I had never had before. I never was embarrassed about anything with her. I didn't try to be "cool" around her. I was utterly and TOTALLY myself. It was FABULOUS.

Two years later, when that dumb boy became my boyfriend, our friendship dissintegrated.

Eventually I called her. I don't remember exactly what made me call her, but I think I just wanted my best friend back. I asked her to go out with me taking nature pictures. It was a bit awkward at first, but we had a great time. I moved away to go to college but we stayed friends. I called her every once in a while and we emailed on occasion. Then one day I was complaining about school and she suggested that I come back home and go to school at her University. It sounded GREAT. I applied, and I came back to California.

We never have quite gotten back to being "kindred spirits".

She is getting married this summer. I am so happy to go that I am even willing to go EVEN if my husband isn't able to go with me.

Now my husband is my best friend. But I often wonder if I am a little odd that I don't want a "Girls Night" with a gaggle of women. I have never been a girl's girl. I would rather hang out with men/guys than a bunch of women. I think I am more of a one on one type of friend. I want to share special/fun things with a person rather than a group.

Ahhhh.....I really would like a female kindred spirit again.
